Embossed Resist Watercolor Card

Hello Crafty Friends! I hope your week is going swimmingly!

I don’t know about you, but the best cards sometimes are the ones that seem to come together so nicely. This is one of those cards, especially since I had water colored the panel a year ago and had forgotten all about it! I’m so glad I found it!

Unfortunately, I don’t remember the colors I used to watercolor, but you could find something similar or use dye inks to watercolor as well.

I made this card with the Where Creativity Meets C9 Challenge in mind, which is to use your oldest Concord & 9th stamp set! How fun!

The hardest part of this card is the stamping and embossing, but you can make that as complex as you wish.

For this one, I took the Wildflower set from Concord & 9th and stamped the flowers onto a piece of white watercolor paper (again, don’t remember the brand. Probably Canson if I has to guess!) heat embossing with white powder as I went.

After Heat embossing, tape it to a flat, preferably movable surface with some gentle tack masking tape to prevent it from warping when you paint.

Coat the surface of the paper with a light layer of water. You want it wet, but not sopping. Then dab your colors on and tilt or use a brush to blend them. Let it dry and add more if you want a deeper color.

After this was done, I cut the piece down to fit on a white A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) card base, and gave it a spritz with some Shimmer Mist. Don’t use a shimmer pen as it will lift the watercolor right off!

I let this dry, then added a strip of glitter tape to the bottom of the card.

The sentiment from My Favorite Things Handwritten Happiness set, I stamped onto a piece of watercolor paper that was trimmed from my panel, and embossed with white powder again. I attached this with foam squares for some dimension.

Last but not least, I added some Queen & Company bubble embellishments for some interest.

Such a simple and pretty card. I love using embossing powder with watercolor to create soft backgrounds with delicate images. I’m so excited that I found this panel lurking in a pile!

Thanks so much for stopping by today! It means so much to have people around my blog. Please feel free to leave comments and follow along on my Instagram account!

Have a wonderful week!
